This was one of the funnest (not a word...don't care) days in a really long time. I got to sleep in and while sitting around that morning deciding what to do we decided totally last minute to go to the West Jordan Parade. It was 10:45 and it started at 10:30 but we decided to just jump in the car and go (and you can tell by Cole's hair and my lack of makeup). Cole was pretty impressed with...the candy. We didn't last long because it just couldn't keep our attention. It was worth checking out anyway...
Cole insisted on wearing my glasses. I will probably get wrinkles within 5 years.
After we left the Parade we went over to the Carnival and things got really fun. Cole SHOCKED me with how daring he was. Last year when we went to Riverton Days, he was afraid to do most of the rides and it was disappointing for us because we wanted him to have fun. This year he ran in the park and started mapping out where he wanted to go first and continued on planning the order of all the rides he wanted to go on. It was so much fun watching him actually be excited to try new things.
This is the first time that I've admitted to myself that Cole is spoiled. I never went on a pony ride when I was 4. He loved it.
Everytime we went to the next ride, he would stand there holding out his ticket patiently.
We have this exact same picture taken from last year. Only this year he is pre-buzz cut. Here he looks a little homeless.
He LOVED this ride. He felt so cool riding a motorcycle.
I was just waiting for him to puke in this rotating strawberry ride. Nope!
Once again--didn't do his hair. It was time for a buzz (which he got yesterday).
After the carnival we were all pretty beat and came back and had an afternoon nap. Then we got washed up and dropped Cole off at Greg and Angie's. They are always so great to have Cole go over and hang out. We love having cousins close by that are his age!
Danny and I peeled out of the driveway and sped down to Provo. :) JK. Actually, we had plenty of time so there was no rush. We got down there early and didn't have to worry about the traffic. We got a great parking spot and just had fun walking around and enjoying the nice weather.
I would have had someone behind us take a picture of us (because everyone knows you don't have a picture taken from below when you already have a double/triple chin)...but nobody looked capable of holding a camera so I took this:
Danny might deny it until the day he dies, but he has a crush on Carrie Underwood. I can't blame him. I have a crush on her too.
There were several opening numbers...Osmond 2nd generation was one of them. They only sang one song.
Yes Bev, I got a picture of the most important member of the group. It kind of looks like he's about to drop a "bomb" if you know what I mean...
Jenny Oaks Baker did an awesome violin number, the 5 Browns performed (anyone ever seen them perform live? One of the girls seriously scared me. Maybe she was just in character but it kind of creeped me out). And some guy from St. George who sings Country did a song. We were so glad that the opening acts weren't actual mini concerts. One song. It was great...and on to Carrie.
Her vocal range is absurd. She was so bubbly and so cute. I didn't realize how many of the songs that I know of hers were actually written by HER. She is so talented. Definitely born to sing.
There were also a lot of other cool things. There were also 260 boy scouts that received their eagles that night (earlier in the program). They had the largest eagles nest in history. Everyone in the stadium that was an Eagle Scout stood up and opened up their programs to a page with the Eagle Badge on it. It was so cool. I'm so proud to be married to an Eagle Scout :) The entire program was broadcast overseas and they paid an awesome tribute to the armed forces. When we stood to say the pledge I got a little emotional. I really felt strength in that stadium. Even though our country is in a state of distress and I am worried about our future--I do not doubt that this is still a nation that truly was founded "under God". I'm proud to be an American. I'm not necessarily proud of our Government or our Leader. Even still--God Bless the USA!
HELLO...I forgot to comment on the fireworks. I loved feeling the boom of the blasts. My heart felt a little shaky :) Everytime we thought they for sure were done, more fireworks started up. It was easily the best fireworks show I've ever seen. It was so cool to feel like they were going to fall on you. I'd never been to Stadium of Fire before but I HIGHLY recommend it. Especially if the entertainment is as good as Carrie.

Yes, he looks like he's ready to drop a bomb. So funny they only sang one song. I went to the very first Stadium of Fire back in the day and they performed. I wrote in my journal that The Osmend Boys performed and that I loved them. So funny!
It looks like such a fun day for you guys. I love a good carnival and it seems like no one does them anymore!
