An overdue update
I first wondered if I should bother adding the top 2 items for my Turkey Day Top Ten list. Then I could change the publish date to being back in November and in 10 years when I get make the time to turn this blog into a book, I'll be none the wiser that I never finished on time. However, I really want to "maintain the integrity" of what is really going on in our lives. So...I'm not going to finish it. I know it will torture you. Be strong, my friends. {Oh, and I simply HAD to use the line "maintain the integrity" because it's one that I frequently make fun of when film producers use it to make excuses. I want to join the fun.)
Wow, okay. Enough about that.
So. Here we are. A few things. Most notably, Danny got a job offer last night. We are freaking thrilled. We've been surprised at how much of a "small world" the mortgage/foreclosure/bankruptcy industry is and how many connections exist between several companies here in the Salt Lake Valley. Danny got hired on for one that we are very excited about. We've heard great things about it and even as he was giving his notice to leave his current job, the HR Manager was very encouraging (although sad about him leaving) and said that she had heard a lot of positive things about this new place and that she'd heard it was a great company to work for. She also said she can't say that about every place people leave to go work for and she's a straight shooter so we know from past experience she'd tell him straight up if she'd heard sketchy things. That was really good to know. Danny's first interview was before Halloween and he just got the call last night! It's crazy how slow they are with everything but we're chalking it up to the fact that they're government affiliated and can go at a snail's pace if they darn well want to. We're just glad the wait is over! Danny has enjoyed working at his current job but there isn't much room for growth and he has learned a TON that will help him in this new endeavor. The health insurance was also majorly lacking. At one point we were paying $650/month for health insurance for just the 3 of us. And Danny's coverage was free. Sickening. That's when I decided to leave AHSJ and go to 1-800-Contacts...so that Cole and I could be covered at a decent cost. We are so excited to have good health coverage again, along with other perks like tuition reimbursement, an onsite fitness center and being in a nicer part of town :) Danny never got into this industry with the intention of staying in it for long...it was actually a temp job through SOS that started it all almost 6 years ago. It'll be interesting to see what road he goes down. It sure isn't culinary related but he's good at what he does and he has worked with some really fantastic people. We are feeling super blessed.
I really miss AHSJ. Especially around this time of year. It's great to not have to "tip toe" around the fact that it's CHRISTmas time. We talked openly about Jesus and his birth, sang REAL Christmas songs (along with some jolly ones) and had awesome devotionals with the kids. I miss that for Cole too. I know I can't shelter him forever but just the other day he came home and spelled out a swear word some kids on the bus taught him. *Sigh* it's so depressing that a 2nd grader is already being presented with filth. :( It makes me that much more determined to do my best as his Mom to teach him correct principles and hope that he makes good choices.
One more quick thing on a bummer note: I've been having some health problems related to my bladder. To spare you the details, we're going on 1 month + of having constant symptoms of a UTI. It all went down about the time I got hired at my new job which has made it challenging. If you're super curious, go ahead and google it. You might shed a tear for me. It's been awful and the emotional toll it has taken is right up there with the physical trauma. I've been referred (FINALLY) to a urologist for further testing because we know there's more to it than what we've seen so far...and since we'll have insurance in a little under 2 weeks, I am practically giddy. November was a really hard month for us. I think my instagram project of taking a picture every day of something I was grateful for may have saved me from nervous breakdown # 2 for 2012. It kept me focused on trying to find something each day that I was thankful for. So, this whole health thing has beenexciting lame and is starting to creep into December which I'm not thrilled about. At least there's light at the end of this painful tunnel. Must. Stay. Positive.
Soooooooooo, here's the good news to end this post: Thanksgiving was awesome and Cole is still the cutest (minus spelling out naughty words). I only took 2 pictures on Thanksgiving day. I wanted to soak up all the laziness, deliciousness and zen.
The Monday after Thanksgiving we hit up City Creek Center and Temple Square. I'm bummed that we had to take off early because I had to get to the pharmacy before it closed to fill an Rx. So, in the words of Arnold, "we'll...be back".

| Danny did the yams and we were pretty proud with how they turned out. That new recipe is a keeper. |

This little gem with his cousin. Because they're adorable, that's why. |
Cole didn't waste any time after Thanksgiving was over. I found this to-do note on the counter...
Ironically, he's also been practicing spontaneous spitting reactions.
And warming himself by his homemade fire. Complete with stocking. 100% his idea.

This view sure doesn't ever get old.
A fun update coming soon about Christmas decor :)
