BYU Women's Conference
What a weekend. Last weekI had the opportunity to join some friends at BYU Women's Conference. I can't believe I've never been. I didn't know what I was missing. Aside from the masses (which I don't think I was prepared for...I really wasn't) it was AWESOME. Talk about spiritual exhaustion. It reminded me of the MTC. So much learning in such a little time. I came home a better mother and a better wife. I didn't say it stuck but I at least came HOME that way :)
In the program it mentions a little something about all the volunteers that help out and give of their time to make everything flow easily. At the end of the paragraph it suggested that you speak to one of them if you needed directions, information or if you just needed a hug. My friends and I had a good laugh at that and decided to take them up on the offer. Of course, since I am the queen of dares, I was the one who did it. I walked right up to a lady after the last session with Elder Perry was over and said "ya know...you guys have done a really good job and I just felt like giving you a hug". It was originally intended to kind of be a joke. Not in a mean way, just a dorky I-don't-get-enough-attention way. But it was very sweet! She got this darling look in her eye and looked me straight in the eyes and said "thank you so much". We not only hugged but we full on EMBRACED. I didn't want to pull away first so I just let her take the lead. I think we hugged for like 15 seconds (which is a lifetime when you don't the person). Anyway, it ended up being a very tender experience and I'm glad I took 15 seconds out of my day to thank someone who really needed to hear it.

This is the service project that we chose to help with. They were these adorable little hand puppets for toddlers. They turned out really cute and it was fun to feel like we were contributing to a good cause. I'm not considered "crafty" so this really boosted my self-esteem...
There are so many topics to choose from and it seems like all the classes are amazing...I don't think you could go to a class and be bored if you were really paying attention. I wish I could just scan in all my notes from the conference and post them but that would take way too long. I just wanted to randomly pick some things that struck me. They might be quotes from apostles or from the speakers...forgive me for not siting these thoughts...
- We will need more than our own strength to keep the commandments.
- Keep your eyes on eternity! Keep your "eyes on the prize".
- When you walk into a room you can either add to it or take away from it even without even speaking.
- There is divine design in the trials that we endure.
- Some of the greatest life's lessons will be in the classroom of your mortal body.
- The atonement was not given to us so that we wouldn't have to exist without any trials.
- Heavenly Father is preparing us to be Gods and Goddesses.
- Integrity is more than just honesty.
- Integrity can be destroyed instantaneously.
- "We will have no temptation or trial beyond our ability to overcome--he will provide a way for us to rise above--whatever it may be"
- When in the midst of trials, asking why will lead us down blind alleys.
- 1/4 of all pregnancies end in abortion. Anything that is anti-family is anti-Christ.
- Do not just stand by and watch pornography ruin lives--FIGHT.
- No love in all the world can equal the true love of a mother.
- Teach your children to feel the Spirit when they are young so that they recognize it when they are older.
- We're never too old to live by the standards taught in the For the Strength of Youth.
- The Holy Ghost is a GIFT. Don't be so quick to give it away.
- Take time to be holy.
- When God comes first in our lives, whatever comes second is right.
- Do not live beneath yourself.
- Don't let the WORLD create the church's image.
- 84% of Americans has had contact with members of the church but only 30% know who we worship.
Oh and the music was AMAZING. Holy smokes. They don't mess around. The music was probably my favorite part.
