Sssssssssssuckah!
One of the best days of the year was today. We got our tax return. We put a big chunk into savings, gave a bunch to our landlords and paid off some evil bills. Danny needs a laptop for his schooling because he will be able to spend more time at home actually interacting with us if he can do homework wherever he is (especially since he rides the bus and trax to work). So for everyone out there who wants to judge us for buying a laptop when we're not completely out of debt--feel free. I had to include that last line because it's inevitable and I just want people to know that we're aware of the fact.
Back to my story...we were at Costco checking out the laptops when I wander over to look at the books and I start talking to some author about his book. Usually I'm pretty smooth at getting out of situations such as these. But I just stood there and listened...Danny was geeking out with Cole over some movies so I had nothing but time. To be honest, the cover of the book doesn't intrigue me and I always judge books by their cover. I really do. I told the author (Ben Behunin) that I just can't read fiction because I get bored and lose interest. Remember when I tried to read Harry Potter? Yep...didn't last. I couldn't do it. I don't remember the last time I actually finished a fictional book. It's NOT because I think they're evil or a complete waste of time...but when I do have time to read, I like to read something that I can just read snippets of here and there. I just can't commit to reading an entire book or series because if I'm being completely honest with myself, I don't sit and read for hours at a time.
ANYway, I made a deal with Ben (author) that I would read his book and he told me that if I didn't like it, I could find him and kick him in the shins with steel-toed boots. That's pretty brave so I assume this will be a good book. It sounded interesting enough and I'm not opposed to trying new things. I also told him I'd be blogging about it as I went and give a very honest review HERE and then on amazon. We agreed so he signed a copy and I was on my way. I don't do things like this...but he was a smooth talker and a nice guy so we'll see where this goes...Danny mentioned that it was really weird for me to do it because I never ever ever do anything like this (I'm pretty good at saying no) but he figured it was because Ben was handsome. No comment. :)
