Turkey Day Top Ten # 9

#9

I am thankful to be a teacher.

I have somehow fallen into a great job.  It started out as a summer gig, then a tuition trade, then part-time help and now I am an actual teacher for full-day Kindergarten.  Can I just tell you how great my job is? I get to work at a place where it's OK to talk about God.  It's a faith based school and we can pray and talk about Jesus Christ and the Plan of Salvation.  That is just one benefit of working at a Private School.  I've worked at American Heritage of South Jordan for almost a year and a half and it's one of (if not THE) best jobs I've ever had.  I love who I work with and I love what I do.  The teachers and staff there are awesome.  They are good people who are amazing at what they do.  We teach the way Thomas Jefferson was inspired to educate.  To "inspire, not require".   To teach from the classics and be mentors to our students.  To become leaders and make the world around them a better place.

Teaching Kindergarten is the most exhausting job I've ever had.  My teacher partner and I both agree that at the end of the day we're ready to collapse but then the next day comes and we're ready to do  it all over again.  The kids are awesome.  We have excellent students who are ready to learn, enjoy life and show their love (well, the younger ones, heh).  I love teaching young kids because when you walk in the room you are greeted with hugs and declarations of how much you are loved.  Hello.  What other job gives you that? My class makes me laugh EVERY single day.  Kids really are always saying the "darndest things" and sometimes it's TMI but it's always funny.  I really want to post a picture of my class on here but I don't know how their parents would feel about that so I'll refrain.  Just know that they are very, very cute.
