I'm always looking for a reason to celebrate, bake, eat and make a big fuss out of practically nothing. I love holidays. St. Patrick's Day is not to be overlooked. I was determined to make it memorable for Cole so I promised him we would make a Leprechaun trap. After looking on line for a while, we found this great idea that was actually a cake! It's genius. You lure the little rascal in with the scent of cake filled in the middle with Lucky Charms and chocolate.
Naturally, it had to be rainbow. It all started off so pretty...
And then a mixture of laziness and the late night hour hit me and I kind of ruined it.
Thankfully, Cole didn't care because it was still bright and colorful. We iced it to make it look like a grassy knoll and then in the center (it was a bundt cake), we covered Lucky Charms with pretzel sticks so that he'd fall down inside. Ideally, I wouldn't have had to take 2 inches off the bottom of the cake to level it off from not coming cleanly out of the pan so it wouldn't have been such an issue. Cole made the cute little sign that indicated what was allegedly inside the cake...and then I had to sort of twist the truth with the cake being ruined the way it was. Basically, we said that the leprechaun was so little he wouldn't be able to get out because we put really sticky frosting on the bottom of the pan. Then we put it in the middle of the floor on a table cloth {just in case} :) and set the iPod under the couch that played happy Irish jigs while we left the room for a while.
When it was time to read scriptures, we asked Cole to go grab our big Book of Mormon from the living room. He was afraid to go in there alone, haha...I think he could sense the outcome. Wouldn't you know that little rascal not only made a huge mess of the place but he also ate his way right out of the cake! Cole was pretty shocked. He also left a secret message for Cole. A tricky little thing.
Cole still talks about how he "can't believe the leprechaun ATE his way out of his trap!" He keeps reminding me that next year we need to do a box because making a cake wasn't a very good idea. Ha! Thanks for nothing, Pinterest! ;)
