Bike Ride from ____________

We thought it would be a good night for a bike ride. Not all of our ideas are great ones. It started out with rain and a flat tire on the trailer. We came home for a few minutes and then ventured out again. The rain had stopped so we took off. Within minutes Cole almost got hit. Danny and I both got after him for not looking both ways when we have been over the rules with him 1.2 million times. I was wanting to go on a route that Cole and I had done before where halfway through the ride there is a HUGE, long hill that you get to coast down. As we were headed towards the top of the hill, I got pretty caught up in my head and telling myself how awesome I was when I looked back and noticed Danny and Cole pretty far behind me. Apparently Cole had almost gotten hit again. This night was off to a terrific start. So, we finally get to the top of the hill and start coasting. It was fun until I got going so fast that I was positive I would hit a rock, go flying and face plant into the pavement so I forced myself to slow down.

Easy does it Rae, 8 MPH...
Eventually we got to the skybridge and I rode up as fast as I could until I had to walk the bike & trailer up the rest of the way. I stood there in the middle of the bridge looking down on the traffic zooming down Bangerter Highway and started to panic. I tried so hard to fight the urge to run because I want so badly to get over this fear of heights. Sometimes it paralyzes me but usually it just makes me want to run. Finally they caught up to me and I hurried to the end. I just don't like bridges. Knowing it could collapse beneath me and that I could fall into a street with cars going 60+ mph? No thanks. Danny took my hand and walked me out to the middle of the bridge again with the cars speeding around beneath me and I totally spazzed out. I don't remember the last time I had a real panic attack. It's been a long time. But I felt like I was going to faint and my heart was pounding so hard and I was talking out loud to try and calm myself down like a crazy person. I was wiggin' out! Danny said he'd never seen me like that. So, enough trying to be brave. I was done.

At this point we realized that Cole's tire was completely flat {what is it with us and the flats?} so we decided to have Danny ride ahead and bring back the car. Cole and I started trudging along with the bikes and trailer in tow and Caleb wasn't having it. It went from a whine to a wail within minutes. He was just ticked. I held up my proverbial white flag and decided to just stop on the side of the road and get him out to calm him down. It was a nice night, thankfully. We just stood there under a street light as it got dark.

And I tried to be silly to make Cole laugh because he kept saying out loud anytime a car passed, "please let the next car be Daddy" and I could tell he was nervous. I tried to lighten the mood by acting like a moron and I think it helped.

Eventually Danny showed up and saved the day. We were all pretty pumped and ready to go home since it was 10:30 p.m.

The boys piled in the car and I took off for home to try and race them {yeah, 'cause that was going to happen}. At least I still got my workout in for the day. And what a day it was.
