11 years

One of the happiest days of my life was April 7, 2004.

11 years later and I'm still happy. It's funny how time seems to go by slowly when you look back and think about all that has occurred but then when I think that I've been married to Danny for 1/3 of my life, that is pretty crazy because it's gone so fast!

This anniversary was much better than last year because we actually planned ahead. We planned together this year and decided that from here on out we'll treat anniversary planning like we do our couple prayer. I have the even days and he has the odd days. It's easy to remember. So I'll plan the even years and Danny's got the odds. Done. No more failed expectations :)

Danny sent me a text at 10:20 AM wishing me a Happy Anniversary because our sealing time was 10:20. The perfect time to get married, if you ask me. I took the day off of work and when Danny got home we took the boys over to Whites so we could have a night off.

We had a gift card to Macaroni Grill so that was the obvious choice. The food was awesome! Our server was a little hyper though. She was overly attentive and it was pretty slow so every time she walked by the table she asked us how things were going. Fine, everything was fine. At one point we had exchanged cards and were reading them silently to ourselves and she walked up and started talking. She realized that we were kind of having a "moment" and she just stood there and stammered about how she should just let us be alone and blah blah blah but she just. kept. talking.

It was pretty bizarre. When she found out it was our anniversary she practically begged to serenade us and we politely declined. But then every time she walked past us, she'd sing Italian love songs in this really cheesy voice. It reminded us of an SNL skit with Kristen Wiig. "Don't make me sing".

I've grown to love Danny even more this past year than I ever have. Our marriage is awesome and very unique. Our relationship has become stronger and can withstand hard things. I'd pick him all over again if I still had to choose.

After dinner we ran some super romantic errands at Walmart {because that's where everyone wants to go on their anniversary} and then went home to watch the extra features on the Mockingjay Blu-Ray. I got into a heated discussion at Walmart with some stranger who started shouting profanities at the customer service clerk and after his 3rd f-bomb I just couldn't stand there and listen to him attack her. I said words, he said words, his wife jumped in and then Danny piped in. Eventually I told them to leave because they couldn't be helped and standing there causing a scene wasn't helping things. Some people.

4.7.15
Yes, I could have been shot. But at least I'd die standing up for my rights as a citizen of this country to not have to listen to a foul-mouthed drug addict shout a string of profanities at an innocent cashier. Besides, it makes for a memorable anniversary.

This post is why I love you guys. You have to plan your anniversaries with easy to remember memory devices. You end up at Walmart after the nice dinner (using a gift card). This is so real and just how we are too. But combine that with your walmart run in and the crazy waitress and how you handled both with aplomb is just what I would expect. You guys are awesome. Happy Anniversary. I remember when I saw you were getting married--I think I was still on the mish when it happened? And it is so dorky, but I remember thinking, hey...see,sister missionaries are marriageable! And not just that, we are a HOT commodity, because Raelynn was snatched up. I should have just known that was only the awesome ones. :) (but still, we are a hot commodity)
