Our vacation

We just got back from a fun little getaway to Mirror Lake. In no particular order I've added several pictures for your viewing pleasure. :) I've also decided to make a list of the things I've learned during our short "vacation", instead of a play by play--because I'm too tired for that...and my wit is dull.
1. Camping with kids is hard work.
2. Cole is afraid of dead fish.
3. Don't ever camp without your spouse there at all times (Danny had to work at one point and was down in SL and then back up the next day--but boy was it the longest day EVER.
4. Fish can jump pretty dang high.
5. Camping sites need to be gated with a lock and key.
6. Now I understand why everyone around us had a tent trailer.
7. Don't offer luke-warm cocoa to a todder who is expecting it to be milk/juice/water. It will spill all over their clothes.
8. There's no point in trying to maintain cleanliness whilst camping with a toddler.
9. Watching children experience things for the first time can bring back a lot of happy memories.
10. Chipmunks eat a lot.
11. My papa is an excellent fisherman.
12. Danny and I don't care to fish--but loved hiking around the lake, and canoing with Cole.
13. It's fun (for me anyway) to see Coleman's name all over everything camping-related.
14. My grandpa Egan made a canoe from scratch! What a talent.
15. I don't think we'll do this again for a while :)

All in all it was a good time--it really was, but the nights were cold, and long. I'm thinking that next year we'll just go up for the day...unless we win a coveted spot in my parents' tent trailer (complete with a heater, microwave and refrigerator!) . Here's hoping! Anyway, we are back. And I do have to say, that I'm excited to sleep in my own bed tonight...and be 10 steps away from a bathroom--with plumbing :)

FUN! Cole looks exact like danny! all these pictures are so cute - makes me want to go out to the mountains (but not camping, heh). Ser - it looks like you had a nice time - love the re-cap too :)
Yay! You're back! I didn't realize what a co-dependant I have become on your dishy blog. :) The pictures are adorable, but I especially loved your list. Honestly, I think it should count as camping with a toddler just taking them to a motel. :) I'm glad you're back, even though I don't see you very often (speaking of which, when are you coming back to visit??) :) Oh wait, I guess I'll let you get used to loving home again.

oh, rae, the pics are fabulous, as is your recap. having been there before, my hat is off to you--camping with kids is its whole separate sphere, isn't it? (i have 60 kids...i camp with them in space and other dimensions...soooo....) anyways, welcome back!

That looks like great fun. Good memories!
rae, camping with little kids is so hard! We bought us an old tent trailer 2 years ago and it has been so so much fun. Camping is so fun now, and way more worth it!

Glad you got to go up. Nate and I learned the same thing at Mirror Lake several years ago. It took us a few times up there overnight to finally decide that, "This isn't fun!" Many cold sleepless nights. Makes you more grateful for simple modern conveniences, eh?
