What I never knew

I have to say that maybe I was a bit harsh on my post about Michael Jackson. Danny and I watched this documentary last night that we got off You Tube. Many of you may have seen it, but I was totally unaware of it and it was fascinating.

Quick synopsis of the documentary:

Living with Michael Jackson is a documentary, in which British journalist Martin Bashir interviewed Michael Jackson over a span of 8 months, from May 2002 to January 2003. It was shown first in the UK on 3 February 2003 and in the US three days later on ABC, introduced by Barbara Walters...The interview was very unusual, as it had been extremely rare for Jackson to allow such access to his personal life, or to talk so freely about his traumatic childhood. Nevertheless, he did show some reserve when asked to discuss other personal issues, such as the plastic surgery he has had.

Aside from the fact that Michael is in COMPLETE denial about several things about his life, I found myself feeling sorry for him.

This is a guy who never knew a normal childhood. I didn't know the kids were beat by their father or that Michael's facial features and acne played such a huge role in his insecurity which would lead to who knows how many surgeries. Kids should be allowed to be kids and he never had that. That probably explains his unhealthy obsession with children. As we watched the documentary I couldn't believe my ears as he confidently spoke about how acceptable it was to let children sleep in his own bed, etc. I'm not excusing his erratic behavior by any means but I do feel a sense of sympathy towards him. He was such a gifted performer and musician but unfortunately fame brings its own set of trials and he was not exempt from them.

I have only seen bits and pieces of that documentary, but I too have always felt sympathy toward him. The only question that I have, is how in the world did he get his skin to change color? How in the world? Of all the over-examining, in-depth reports going on about Michael Jackson, I have not seen ONE report explaining his change in skin color. Does everybody else know and I'm just out of the loop? Or do I need to watch more tv? What the heck?

it is funny to me how most people could have cared less about what was going with him before and now that he has died, everyone is all about him. he did lead such and interesting and sad life. i believe he explained the color change through a skin disease - vitilago (sp?), but who knows what the truth is, it's sad and reminds me a lot of elvis' premature death. on a lighter note, i LOVE your new blog design! did you do it yourself?? sooooooooooo cute!
