I blame Facebook

I think I must be more insecure than I'd like to admit. I remember a time when I used to get a LOT of comments...and I thrived on those comments. I was blogging for me, but the comments gave me the positive feedback that I craved to keep going.

Since Facebook came along, it seems like more people use Facebook, than blog surfing to check in with people. It does make sense...one place, millions of people. But the thing that Facebook LACKS is the ability to really WRITE. These are the types of posts that I enjoy making and the type of posts that I enjoy reading. I don't obsessively check my statcounter but I have noticed a change in how many readers I have and when I look at how many comments I have--it surprises me.

I'm considering going private because even though that will lessen my readership even more, I think it will help me remember why I'm blogging in the first place. I know a lot of people "threaten" to go private and that's not what this is...I just think it might be time for this White House to close the gates to some people who didn't pass their background checks.

I have a couple polls to the side that I'm really hoping you'll take. If you're reading this through google reader--take 10 seconds and take the polls! Much love.

Ah, my friend brought up this great point...if my blog were private, I wouldn't have been able to connect with as many people as I have. It's been a great way to get reacquainted with people who I haven't seen for a long time. It's just more of a pain for the readers (in my opinion) but I guess you'll know who your true friends are :)

I LIVE for comments on my blog. I'm a total blogger but even I have posted recent pictures on facebook. I hope hope hope it doesn't become more popular than blogs. I will say I blog more for myself lately since we lost all our pictures. I know they will be saved if I blog them and I'll print a blog book eventually. I'm against private blogs when I'm not invited. Just think...if you were private I would have never found you. Hopefully I'll pass your background check. Can you add "I hope not" as an answer to the first poll?

I couldn't agree more - using Facebook is fine for short snippets, but blogs allow you to write and really express yourself.

Sheesh. I really don't like Facebook.

honestly, i think blogging is so much better than facebook...but alot of people don't agree with me. The pu the exact same pictures on blog and facebook.]

FOr me, I nevercomment cause I have everyonein my google reader and I read it from there, so half the time people don't even see (even with a stat counter) that I have checked out their blog. It is easier than checking every blog indiviidually ( could do it for hours), just seeing the updated ones...then i get too lazy to comment. I don't think I am alone in this
I LOVE your blog. Facebook just isn't the same. Also, I might point out that you don't blog as often as you used to, so that might be why your numbers have gone down? I'm always thrilled when I see you have a new post! So if you do go private, count me in!

I know what you mean - I hardly ever get any responses to my blogs anymore - makes me wonder if anyone is reading them, but I am writing mine more for me anyway, I guess. Sometimes I want to hear what other people think, but I'm sure people just get busy. I know now that school is in for me I don't have much time for reading my friend's blogs.

I honestly don't understand why facebook is so addicting. I just haven't caught the bug yet. I mean, I get that it's fun to get back in touch with old friends, but that is nothing like blogging-- at least in my opinion.

I have really (honestly really) enjoyed the lack of comments. I used to freak out at the amount of readers verses the amount of commenters-- wondering who is reading (and why) but I have finally grown up, I think. It's made my journaling better and blogging so much more enjoyable.

As far as going private, good luck! I've hated going private and I have a hard time keeping up with others who are, but it's obviously an individual decision.

And really, though. What is the deal with facebook. Why would anyone want to know what random friends who they haven't talked to in years are doing RIGHT THIS SECOND? I honestly do not understand. I totally get the picture sharing and networking thing, but how could it replace blogging?

I'm sorry! I'm really bad at writing comments. I read your blog all the time through google reader.
Cole is getting so big. I love the little quotes you write for him. They crack me up!

Some blogs that are private, don't show up on my google reader as being updated, so I don't visit those ones very often. But some of the private ones do show up. So if you go private, I hope it will update in google reader!

I love blogs more than facebook as well except that pictures are quicker and easier to load on facebook. I love the "personal"ness of it. I have found though that I don't comment as much as I used to - Check blogs every day quickly and read updates but don't comment as much - I love your blog by the way! Love ya!!!

Blogging is better. Ditto to Janet on blogging vs facebook. I don't have facebook and probably won't ever.
I blog for me (and for my family members that live far away). If you go private I will still read your blog so count me in.

I hate them both equally, and can't stop myself from being interested!

I probably won't read your blog if you go private....just because it's too hard for me to keep up if your not in my followers window. Don't do it, I love your blog!
