I can't sleep.  I really need to be in bed because after 4 days of only being in bed, tomorrow I start work again.  Like I said, I really need to be in bed.  My mind is literally racing.  So many things.  Today has been kind of a whirlwind for me.  Started off the day being LIVID.  Awesome.  Way to start the sabbath! Then I was mad, then I felt bad, then I was feeling sorry for myself, then I didn't care, then I was angry again, then I was numb, then I was humbled, then I was inspired and now I feel hopeful and at peace.  Kind of a crazy day but women aren't crazy! We're just on hyper-speed when it comes to emotions :)

One thing I've been thinking about is how much has changed in the last year specifically with Cole.  I was thinking about some of the things that were really worrying me at this time last year and in only ONE little year, so many of those things are gone! Since last Fall Cole has:

* Stopped sucking his thumb
* Gotten rid of his blanky
* Learned the Pledge of Allegiance, God Bless the USA, My Country 'Tis of Thee and many more songs that I LOVE that he knows all the words to.
* Learned how to blend letters and is starting to read
* Has learned to write all the letters, his name and many other short words
* Has started coloring, painting, drawing (seriously--he did NOT like to do this before...he would always push the paper away and want Danny or I to do it, it was so weird).  Now he loves it.
* HAS BECOME POTTY TRAINED!!

This last one is especially awesome because I thought it was going to kill me.  He is SO stubborn and thinks he is so clever and funny.  He knew he had me at his mercy and I totally played into it.  A good friend of mine gave me a great idea for potty training my next child so we'll see how that goes.

The thumb sucking thing was also a stress to me.  Especially since he was starting school.  I didn't want him to be "that kid".  His teacher was awesome though--and was very strict with him.  Not mean, just strict.  She was also really supportive of his ummm, bathroom progress :) The other week, Cole shouted out from the bathroom--"Mom! I wiped 4 times just like Miss Audrey told me to!" At least he'll listen to SOMEONE :)  Then again, last week while walking around IKEA, we had to chastise Cole for itching...no...grabbing at his butt and he shouts (because that's all he knows how to do in public) is yell "Well, I didn't wipe my butt enough and now the poo is itching me!" Nice.  I was glad we could provide a few families with a little chuckle.

Cole has made so many great friends and it has been a HUGE blessing for me to work at the school.  This is easily one of the biggest blessings we've had a very long time.  There isn't a day that goes by that Danny and I don't thank God for our jobs.  For me, it's not just the fact that I have a job (although that is a blessing in itself) but it's a huge, huge, enormous blessing to be able to take Cole with me everyday, play with good kids, learn how to share (work in progress) and be surrounded with other kids.  It's something we can't provide him at home and Heavenly Father knows that this little social bug needs to be with people! He is just like his Mommy.

I feel like I'm able to expose Cole to a lot of things that I wouldn't even think about doing if we were just chillin' at home by the pool like last summer.  Hey, nothing against the pool--in fact my legs are dying for some sun.  I'm just realizing how many things kids can do at his age that are free, exciting and educational.  Again, another blessing from my job.

I know every kid at this stage is funny.  They say funny things and are generally just silly little people.  But Cole is REALLY funny.  His comedic timing is even improving and he's only FOUR.  He catches on to a lot of things when we don't realize he's listening and then bam! He'll bring it up later in a different conversation and totally crack us up.  I think my favorite is still "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawkwaaaaaaaaaaaaaard".

Don't judge me just because I go to the pool multiple times a week. Kidding, sometimes that worries me though. I want Nora to be smart, not tan.

Speaking of pools, we would love to come swimming. I miss you.

Oh trust me--if I weren't working, I would be at the pool EVERY stinkin' day...because that's how I roll :)

DIED laughing at the IKEA "incident." Wish I was there when it happened. Sigh.

What a big year! It sounds like he's made a lot of changes. And for the better! Would I be the biggest dork around if I admitted that I had my blankie all the way through high school? ;-)

I can't believe how much he's grown. It's definitely bitter sweet as a parent to watch them grow up.....so quickly. :) And for the record, I will ALWAYS think of Cole now when I pick up the IKEA ads. hee hee ;)
