Quick Trip

Danny and I have been dying to get away all summer but our work schedules haven't really allowed for that.  We were finally able to go up to Payson Lake to meet up with his side of the family.  We only got to stay one night but we tried to make the most of it.  I basically don't have any pictures of Friday night because we got up there and I wasn't feeling well.  We set up the tent, had something to eat and I crashed.  Lame, I know.  I hear I missed out on some fun campfire time.  I slept like a newborn (meaning I was up every 2 hours and didn't exactly sleep).  Our air mattress deflated and I had to go to the bathroom twice in the middle of the night.  I wasn't about to walk all the way down to the bathrooms by myself in the middle of the night...so I will skip this part of the story...

My Gpa Egan had let us borrow his beautiful canoe.  It's a yearly tradition that I'm glad we've been able to keep.  I think the Whites really enjoyed it too.  Everyone else left on Saturday morning so we didn't see much of them.  We got to spend some fun with Natalie, Brad, Brian, Emily and Ellie though.

1.  Do you like my "outfit" and that I wasn't helping to paddle? Nattie wanted to, I swear.
2.  I love that Ellie is riding up front with her Daddy.  She is fearless.
3.  Nattie had some excellent fake tears going on.
4.  Danny's stud of a brother, Brad.  Just got a job for HP and he's single.
Spread the word because he is a catch!

The highlight of the trip was me tipping over in a kayak.  It's too funny because I was nervous all along to try it, but when I'm afraid of something I usually try it out so I can conquer my fear.  I don't get bothered by the canoe and it being unsteady...I guess I'm just used to it.  Everyone assured me (AHEM. BRAD) that the kayak was less scary and more stable than the canoe because you're closer to the water.  I was pretty apprehensive but I wanted to try it.  I got in and took off.  I have to say I felt pretty cool zooming around on the lake.  It was fun! Natalie was cruising around on the other kayak and after a while of being off on my own, I wanted to turn around and go mess around with her.  So...Nats and I get pretty close and she's holding out her hand for me.  At this point, I'm feeling pretty cocky about my balance abilities and reach out to give her a high five.  Couldn't reach but I was feeling confident...so I reached out further.  It was slow motion after that :) The last thing I saw was Natalie's face laughing hysterically as I grabbed my nose and fell face first into the nasty lake water.

It gets funnier.  So with the kayak tipped over, it completely fills with water and I can't do much but tread water (with no life jacket) and try to not let the paddle float away.  A nice little family came by in their canoe and helped get the kayak emptied and retrieved my lost sandal.  Sadly, my favorite sunglasses were long gone :(

I can see Natalie over by the shore explaining that I had just tipped.  I'm of course losing my breath because I'm trying to DRAG a heavy kayak through the lake and keep track of the dang paddle.  {I later found out that Cole was watching the entire thing and said calmly "Haha, Mommy just tipped over in her boat"}.  I'm so glad to know he's got my back.

Natalie gets out of her kayak so that Brian can come help out...and then somehow HE tips over while getting in.  HAHA, it was funny.  There were no "incidents" the entire weekend until now and we got a double doozy.  Too funny.  I don't really remember how I got to shore, I just remember I was really tired because I couldn't even doggy paddle for most of the time (being that both my hands were occupied).  Good thing my legs are super buff.so I could just get by with the frog kick. :)

Anyway, I finally get over to the shore and can walk in.  Let me just tell you how NASTY that lake water is...I don't think I'll ever go swimming there.  A canoe ride? Yes.  Anything else? No.

Aside from that, it was really fun and even though it's a lot of work to pack up for just ONE night away from home...I'm glad we did it!

What a fun little getaway! Sometimes even just a night away is enough of a break to keep ya' going.

I have never wanted to try out a kayak before. It seems so clausterphobic (sp?) to me! Hilarious though that you tipped over.. just sayin'... ;-)
