Day 26: Allowance

I don't remember ever getting allowance when I was younger.  Not that it was a big deal because I obviously turned out somewhat normal (although I suppose the jury is still out on that). But we'd like to give Cole a greater understanding of the principle behind work, earning money and then the proper way to save, spend and pay tithing. I was scouring the internet for ideas on Chore Charts that included amounts of money the child could earn by doing the jobs.  I didn't like ANYthing I found so I just decided to make my own. It's nothing fancy (I just made it in Microsoft Excel) but Cole is very excited about it so we're on the right path!

Cole won't be earning money for the jobs he does on a regular basis (making his bed and smaller stuff like picking up his messes) but I wanted to give him the opportunity to earn money by doing just that--earning it.  This allows him the ability to choose the jobs he wants to do and control the amount of money he will make. I haven't decided on the "rules" or numbers of jobs he'll need to do each week.  That will require some talking with Danny, but for now, Cole is excited to start doing some jobs so he can start checking things off.

I just printed out the chart on high quality cardstock paper and stuck it in a sheet protector because I'm out of 8.5 x 11 inch lamination pouches (the horror!) so this will do for now. After a job is completed, he can check it off and once he receives the money, we'll erase the check. Easy enough, right? I'll let you know how it goes!

Sorry for the bluriness here...I didn't want to use the flash.

Do you like the happy blue rug in the pictures? That would be the $5 rug I scored at IKEA for Cole's corner.  We added an art display "clothes line" and he LOVES it. He has already started rotating out pictures that he wants to display. It is perfect. He also needed some extra lighting since it's a somewhat dimly lit corner.  This picture was taken at night so excuse the darkness. Man, we really need to get that table and chair set painted! (Although, it is rather artistic).
