Bragging Rights & Cuteness

This weekend we celebrate my Grandpa Egan's 80th birthday!! He is in great health and it was fun to watch him see old friends and family who he doesn't see often. He is moving in with my parents and the open house was held there. Their basement will be done this week, and he will be a Riverton resident in no time! My mom hired Danny to make a big cake for the event. It was a surprise for Grandpa. We wanted it to be really classy, yet fun. I mean, 80 is a big deal! It is very similar to some other cakes he has done, but he has never done the frosted swirls on the fondant.

This is why making cakes is a big deal: Danny has NO professional training at all. He is completely self-taught. People think that because he went to culinary school, he was instructed on how to do this. He was being taught french cooking from a certified Le Cordon Bleu school--not how to decorate cakes. But, it was while he was in school that he discovered his talent and affinity for pastries. So, that is why I am extremely proud of Danny. He's pretty much the smartest and most creative person I know.

After the crowds died done--Cole and Spencer did what they do best: make messes. Since they are the only boy cousins their age on my side of the family (that don't live in California) they have become good little buddies. As long as toys aren't involved they get a long great. They are especially good at throwing rocks into muddy puddles, chucking wood chips at each other, and licking up rain gutter water. Gross. Yes, I will probably regret letting Cole do that (especially because Spencer followed suit) but also because now he thinks it's cool to drink from girly water fountains.

p.s. Cole is so cute. ALWAYS.
You know, if you guys had stayed in AZ you could have had a great cake business in the east valley with all the referrals from us LDS folk. Want to move back?! Plus, we have a gazillion resorts and yummy restaurants where Danny could become head chef. Sounds like a plan to me! (Okay, just kidding. I know you love Utah.)
And I'm still loving Cole's dimples. yum!
Your husband is VERY talented!
