Anniversary Getaway

On the day of our actual anniversary, I was so sick that I rolled over to Danny in bed and said "Happy Anniversary, I love you." And I'm pretty sure I fell back asleep...and then slept most of the day. 'Twas very romantic. I knew we'd celebrate when I was feeling better so I wasn't too concerned but I was a little bummed I was still feeling cruddy at that point.

We celebrated two months to the day later (it just worked out that way--we didn't plan it). We found a crazy deal at Little America and decided it would be perfect to head straight there after our ultrasound appointment. Cole slept over at Greg & Angie's so we could get away and I'm so grateful to them!

Danny used to work at Little America so I'm sure it was fun for him to be a guest there and not serving or preparing food for anyone. We had a beautiful room and although it was weird to not even have a fridge or microwave (we're not used to staying in nice places) we got over it pretty quick with all the other awesome amenities.

Not a bad view, eh?

I actually took a picture of the toilet because...it's weird looking. I don't know. But as a pregnant lady, I spent plenty of time there and it was very comfy. So that's what matters...

We have been hoarding gift cards since Christmas and used them up over the weekend which was awesome. It's fun to pretend you're rich. We had dinner at Spaghetti Factory because really--it's one of our faves.
Always get Pesto dressing. Yum.

My "usual". Spinach tortellini with Alfredo sauce along with spaghetti with brown butter & mizithra. We shared a side of steamed broccoli also covered with mizithra. YUMMOLA. I am seriously salivating just staring at these pictures. Gahhhh.

After dinner we went back to the hotel and crashed. Sleeping in was grand and and then we hit the breakfast buffet which they are pretty much famous for. Danny remembers cutting strawberries for these Saturday morning events. Bowl after bowl of strawberries. Sounds fun. I tried Eggs Benedict for the first time but wasn't a fan of the hollandaise sauce. At all. The food was all so fancy and we felt a little out of place since we're more used to a "buffet" that consists of frosted flakes and maybe waffles but it was really fun and the food was pretty good. Not amazing--but pretty good.

We decided to extend our stay and surprise Cole with a night downtown. I know that soon enough he'll be sharing our attention with a baby brother and that will likely come as a huge shock to him so it was fun to do something like this with him. When we explained what was going on he said, "Thanks for planning this getaway! I really needed a break!" {LOL...kids' lives are so hard. When I asked him what he possibly needed a break from he replied, "From the cats!" {if I had to guess, I'd say the cats were the ones who needed a break from him but it was hilarious all the same}. He was pretty impressed with our room.

We didn't waste much time and got ready for the pool right away. A nice looking employee with a cooler of otter pops came around and offered everyone a complimentary Popsicle. This place is fantastic!

It was a gorgeous day and after the pool we got cleaned up and headed to City Creek to use our GC to another fave: Cheesecake Factory. I don't know if it's just my pregnant self but I could have had their house dressing as a beverage. I don't remember ever having it before or having that kind of love affair with it but HOLY SMOKES. I need a rip off recipe of that, stat. I wasn't feeling so hot after dinner so I headed back in the car to our hotel and Danny and Cole did some window shopping around City Creek and then took TRAX back. It was all window shopping until Danny saw THIS at the Disney Store:

Are you KIDDING ME? We had to get it. Even had a gift card. Yipee!! Baby White already has a Halloween costume. We tried talking Cole into being Sully because we thought it would be hilarious to see him carrying little Mike Wazowski around...but the idea didn't fly. At all. That's okay because housekeeping showed up with some mints and their turn-down service. {uhhh, we had no idea what that was either}.

When my boys got back we hung out and got ready for the fireworks display at the baseball stadium just a few blocks south. After the Bees game we had a great show and even though the pictures don't do it justice, it was awesome!

I was still feeling yucky and fell asleep quickly after the show was over. The next morning was Sunday so we packed up, lounged around outside while waiting for a tour bus full of people to check in so we could check OUT and then we were on our way. I was sad to see our fun weekend go. It went by WAY too quickly and it's always hard to see Danny go back to work on Mondays. Still, I'm glad we did it and we made some great memories. We might have to make this an annual tradition because this place was AWESOME. And it smells like bacon, so yeah.
