Cake Making 101
Here we have the beginnings of a wedding cake. I sure hope the bride and groom don't see this until they see the final product (they might back out at the last minute out of sheer panic). But rest assured, this is how it is normally done. The cakes are baked in their pans and are set upside down to cool (this way the cool marks from the rack are on the part of the cake that gets leveled off). The small tier that is still in the pan will soon be leveled off, and the dome will be donated to a lucky benefactor. The 50 pounds of powdered sugar will really all be used. Not necessarily in the next few cakes--but you'd be surprised how much of this stuff you actually use in the whole process. So, we will call this step 1. Oh, and I feel it important to note that even though we don't necessarily condone drinking caffeine, admittedly, Mountain Dew usually becomes a part of the cake making process because they always seem to fall on the CRAZIEST weeks/days of our lives. So, really--it's the fault of the Bride & Groom. They took away our agency...um, yeah.
