Johnny Appleseed & The Leader in Me
With the school year wrapping up, Cole has had some fun things going on at school. One of them was the Wax Museum. They were supposed to pick a famous person, do a poster with facts about them and then dress up as that person. The goal was to stand as a statue while the crowd walked through the "museum" but as most third graders do--about 10 minutes into it, the excitement wore off and they started goofing off. Cole had just done a book report on Johnny Appleseed so he chose him as his famous person. Thank heavens. The costume was a breeze. We got some pants at the D.I. to shred. The first pair that Cole tried on looked like girl leggings {they actually were} and he was devastated because I joked that we'd get those ones.
Eventually we found the right pair and went to town on them as well as one of his under shirts. We made a little pouch that said "Apple Seeds", wrapped a basket from the dollar store in tin foil and put some rope around his waist for a belt. Voila. $4.00 for the entire thing. Saweeet.
Cole wasn't sure how he wanted to pose so he tried out a few of his options.
This is what he ended up with. I came through right at the beginning so I got to see him in all of his glory.
| Yes, he was barefoot in the gym. Ewww. |
Nate did a great job as Steve Jobs {and totally looked like a mini version of him!}
| I tried to get him to break character by tugging on the iPad box but he just smirked and gripped it tighter. |
I wish I had gotten a picture of the girl who dressed up like Katy Perry. Third grade. Katy Perry. *sigh*
This is when Cole lost interest. At one point he was "boiling his seeds in his hat". This was another easy pose.
But back to character for a pic with Mom.
Cole's school does an award called the Leader in Me award which is only given to kids who participate in several extra curricular activities throughout the year. Most of them are done at home but there are a couple that are done in the classroom. Cole was one of only four kids in his class to earn the award so we were really proud of him {even though I basically forced him to do it and had to nag him about it all the time}. He got a certificate and a medal which is actually pretty cool. It was a lot heavier than I expected it be. I checked Cole out of school and we went to lunch to celebrate. While we were driving I mentioned how cool the award was and he said, "yeah, I thought it was just going to be a certificate but now I feel like I just graduated from the air force or something!"
I think I laughed for a full 30 seconds. And then on and off for the next week.
