Going off track
Cole's class had a fun party the last Friday before going off track and I went in to help out. Evan's mom and I ran the show and immediately took over. We've both been teachers and are good at bossing kids around. Cole's teacher was visibly tired and checked out so we let her kick back and get a few things done while we handled the loud, crazy, excited-to-be-off-track kids. It wasn't too bad with her helping me out and the kids had a great time. We pumped them full of sugar and then sent them home to their parents :) Peyton and Kaitlyn are both from the 10th ward and knew who I was. I also recognized some of the students from Cole's first grade class when I went in every week to help out with centers.
I didn't get to help out last year with Caleb being so young and I missed seeing Cole in his element and watching him interact with the other kids. I'm glad that he still gets excited to have me in his class and meeting his friends. I know that probably won't last much longer so I need to savor it while it lasts.
Cole may deny this--but he has an innocent crush on Amora {in the pink with something in her mouth--a great shot}. He said he wanted to play with her while they were off track so I asked her what her phone number and what parents' names were. It turns out her dad is Brandon Johnson, who I went to high school with. In fact, I went to a dance with him my junior year and had a major crush on him. They recently moved into Erin and Mary's ward along with a hundred other people I know. Small world!
Cole did not take advantage of the pounds and pounds of candy that were available to him but he kept his graham cracker house nice and simple. Keepin' it classy.
And thus began winter off-track of 2014...
