I'm pretty much a professional

Swimmer that is. A friend of mine has a gym membership to 24 hour fitness, and invited me along today. I've been wanting to get into a pool to workout. I need something that is essentially low/zero impact on my lower back, and something I enjoy: swimming. It turns out 24 hour fitness is having a little dealio for the month of February. One free guest every time you visit (for members). Hello--what a great deal. So I set off for the locker room where I was only flashed 3 times, and only got 2 whiffs of different perfume from post-workout women. I made it to the pool in one piece and spent my time mastering this one very important technique: breathing. I have this little stupid human trick that I've done since I was a kid that helps me keep water out of my nose when I go under water. The problem? I look like a fool, and it is NOT conducive to swimming laps. I'll post a picture if enough of you vote. :) So Amy taught me to inhale while stroking with the opposite arm, and exhale into the water through my nose. You guys--this is a big deal! It only took me about 5 minutes to undo a bad habit that I've had for TWENTY-SEVEN years. I was pretty pumped. I swam laps with a kick board, and then did some back strokes that I remembered from 8th grade swim class. It was a blast. This is something I could really get into. Only my hair totally reeks after just this one visit! Any advise on a swim cap? Like a good brand? Don't be surprised if you see me in the Olympics. This could be me:
Minus the fact that I'm not Japanese, I actually have a Purple swimming suit...and now that I look a little closer, I think this is a picture of a man. Google Image search has failed me. Anyway, I get the award for most improved swimmer 2008. Thank you, thank you very much.

I totally probably have some extra swim caps lying around somewhere...you could have one if you don't mind it saying Kearns High Swim Team!

You made it in the pool in one-piece or you were WEARING a one-piece? Don't you have a darling, skimpy, valentines TWO piece you've been wanting to wear in the pool?

Way to go Rae!! It's not BREATHING I struggle with...it's SWIMMING. SO if you could teach me how to break THAT 30 year "bad" habit - I would love to learn from a pro ;)
rock on rae. way to breathe! and exercise!

I don't know if you know this but Jay is an incredible swimmer and has had some records in the past for it...so he decides to marry the woman who's never had a swimming lesson in her life! So when we were in Tacoma one day bored (since we didn't know anyone), he gave me a mini lesson and I still to this day cannot figure out how to breathe! Ha ha ha! Good for you for figuring it out!
