They're just jealous
It's funny to me that (mostly) guys feel so threatened by David Archuleta and the attention he gets. Of COURSE he's going to get attention from Utahns, Mormons and tweens. But the fact that he gets attention from people in their twenties, thirties, fourties and up is probably irritating to them. Why? Because they're jealous. I know girls and women say "awww, Archie is so cute" and "I love him he's so adorable". Why is that a bad thing? It's not like we're truly going to chase him down because of some irresponsible charge of emotions. What cracks me up is the fact that guys are irritated with our affection towards him but we're usually attracted to him because of his talent. How many middle aged women say (in all seriousness) "he is so hot....I can't believe how smokin' hot he is." Not so much. That's not to say he isn't a good lookin' guy because he IS. But it's not the first thing we think about him.
But if a guy has an innocent "crush" on a high profile female in the industry it's usually because "she's hot". Does that bother anyone else? So we shouldn't like a 19 year old kid who sings with nearly perfect pitch on a regular basis but they can like a girl because she's "hot"? Hmmmm. Not so cool. I don't know that I've ever heard a guy say "I just really appreciate her music because it's uplifting, has a good message and she's a positive role model for young people today". Nope--she's just "hot".
So I've come to realize that it's OK if guys (or girls) don't like David Archuleta. Or if some people are embarrassed to admit that they like/love his voice or that he's too young for their taste or whatever. And it's fine if people don't find his music appealing but you'd have to be DEAF and musically uneducated to think that he isn't supremely talented. His music will be around for years and years so all the DA haters might as well get used to hating him.
For some reason I have felt that I have to defend liking him because I get teased a lot. Well, I'm done feeling like I have to defend myself. Usually Archie haters haven't even heard the majority of his music and haven't seen a full interview with him. They probably don't know how grounded he is, how uncool he thinks he is and how he really does spark a creative side in me that makes me want to use my talents for the good of others. After all, isn't that what our talents are for?
His new CD is out and is fantastic. Fun, quirky and pretty true to who he is. Check it out!
