Surprise!
Tuesday I had my 5th ultrasound for Baby White and we got some surprising news. We were going in to get measurements to see how big the baby was because according to the tape measure a month ago, I was measuring a couple weeks ahead of schedule. No big deal, it happens all the time. Well, as the tech was measuring the head and legs the gestational age wasn't anywhere near 30 weeks, it was showing 34 weeks and 5 days! The tech mentioned I was about 3 weeks ahead of my October 12 due date. But my due date was October 23rd...something was off. Turns out at my 20 week ultrasound, the MFM docs changed my due date to October 12th and didn't mention it to me. WHAAAAAAT? {in my mind, I'm saying that like the minions from Despicable Me}. This little guy is already six pounds! If I go another 8 weeks he'll be as big as a barn!
She continued with the measurements and I just figured he was huge from the diabetes. You can see how chubby his cheeks are and I can't wait to kiss them! After the ultrasound we went over to meet with the doctor but I forgot I was meeting with his nurse because he was out of town all week {naturally}. The nurse and tech had a nice chat and then Dr. F's nurse busts out that we could be having a baby in 3 weeks. EXCUSE ME? That was based purely on the gestational age of the baby which I know they don't always go off of but seriously..whut. On Monday I start non-stress tests and will do those twice a week to monitor the baby and I. Basic protocol with gestational diabetes. It's very likely that in another two weeks I'll have another ultrasound to check the size of the baby at that time. We just have to wait to see what the doc thinks about my due date and when we'll be scheduling this c-section. I'm hoping my blood pressure will cooperate so he can bake as long as possible. It was a little high at my appt. but they didn't seem too concerned just yet. Another doc weighed in on my ultrasound and said that if I was his patient, he'd move my due date up two weeks which would put me at delivering the last week of September if I'm still doing a c-section at 38 weeks. ANYwho, wowowowow. Things are in limbo but I'm laughing to myself that I was freaking out about having a baby in 8 weeks and now it's likely that it'll be in 5 or 6 weeks. I just want him here safe and sound. Those little cheeks are already calling out to me...
